Conditionals and Independence in Many-Valued Logics

چکیده
Events and possible worlds from physical systems States and observables of physical systems provide a very general source of continuously valued events and possible worlds. Let be a “physical system”. Following [6, pp.362–369], a rigorous account of is given by its associated C -algebra , with the set sa of selfadjoint elements, and the set sa of real-valued normalized positive linear functionals on sa. For anyW and X sa the real numberW X is the expectation value of the observable X when is prepared in mode W Given a set E X1 Xm of nonzero positive elements of sa, W determines, by normalization, the map w : E 0 1 given by w Xi w Xi Xi where Xi is the norm of Xi. Intuitively, the event Xi says “the observable Xi has a high value,” and w evaluates how true Xi is. The set 0 1 E of possible worlds is defined by w W . is a closed nonempty set in the cube 0 1 E 0 1 n.

Truth Values and Connectives in Some Non-Classical Logics
The question as to whether the propositional logic of Heyting, which was a formalization of Brouwer's intuitionistic logic, is finitely many valued or not, was open for a while (the question was asked by Hahn). Kurt Gödel (1932) introduced an infinite decreasing chain of intermediate logics, which are known nowadays as Gödel logics, for showing that the intuitionistic logic is not finitely (man...
متن کاملTowards an algebraic framework for many-valued conditional probability
We investigate probability functions defined over many valued conditional events. During the last decade or so considerable research effort has been directed towards the understanding of what (subjective) conditional probability might look like in the context of many-valued logics. Given its centrality in the area, a particularly well-studied case is that of Lukasiewicz’s infinite-valued logic ...
متن کاملA generalised model of judgment aggregation
The new eld of judgment aggregation aims to merge many individual sets of judgments on logically interconnected propositions into a single collective set of judgments on these propositions. Judgment aggregation has commonly been studied using classical propositional logic, with a limited expressive power and a problematic representation of conditional statements (if P then Q) as material con...
متن کاملReduction of Many-valued into Two-valued Modal Logics
In this paper we develop a 2-valued reduction of many-valued logics, into 2-valued multi-modal logics. Such an approach is based on the contextualization of many-valued logics with the introduction of higher-order Herbrand interpretation types, where we explicitly introduce the coexistence of a set of algebraic truth values of original many-valued logic, transformed as parameters (or possible w...
متن کاملIndependence Relations in Probabilistic Logic (Extended Abstract)
In “standard” probability theory, one lists all events that are logically possible, and then places a normalized measure over them. This scheme is rather dry. It may happen that the list of possible events is encoded through logical sentences, and one must employ logical reasoning to determine which events are included in probabilistic assessments. It may also happen that probabilistic assessme...
